Barry
Morgenstein was born on March 18, 1961. Raised in Teaneck, New Jersey
and living what were then his first passions; blues and rock-n-roll. Barry
was playing guitar in a band with his then girlfriend and lead singer
when, one day, while volunteering to take publicity shots for his girl
friend, he discovered his true gift: photography. Driven to his new passion,
Barry enrolled for study at the International Center for Photography in
New York City, where he learned the basic principles. This would eventually
lay the foundation for his development of a deeper, more personal approach
to photography.
Upon graduating from the International Center for Photography, Barry landed
a position as an assistant to renowned music photographer Mark Weiss.
Within two years, he was the top photographer at the agency. Barry shot
primarily concerts and studio sessions, building a magnificent portfolio
and a reputation that allowed him to found his own photography studio.
Barry's goal today remains the same as it was the first time he picked
up a camera- to capture the essence of the moment in every photograph
he takes. In this way, Barry likes to compare photography to guitar playing-
often saying in interviews that, “ "a truly great photographer
can capture the emotion of the moment with a few simple lights, just as
great guitar player can transmit feeling through a few simple notes."
With this philosophy, it is not surprising that Barry is known for creating
memorable photographs.
His simple approach and innate ability to capture the true beauty and
emotion of his clients have made Barry one of the most sought after photographers
in the entertainment industry. The list of clients he has worked with
read as a virtual who's who of the entertainment and music industry. Among
the celebrities he has had the privilege of photographing are Michael
Jackson, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Meryl Streep and Paul McCartney. He was
the official photographer for Howard Stern's book, Private Parts, with
more than 100 inside photos of Stern. As a result, he was featured on
E! Entertainment Television, in a one hour documentary on the making of
Stern's movie, Private Parts.
His work for record companies, modeling agencies and publishing companies
consistently appeared in major print publications, such as Rolling Stone,
New York Magazine, The New York Times, People, Entertainment Weekly, Billboard,
Parade, and Soap Opera Digest.
Barry has successfully exhibited his work on numerous occasions; including
at VH1's headquarters in NYC.
